Campo Alle Comete - Bolgheri Superiore 2015 (750ml)
Intense ruby red color with violet reflections. The nose is very complex with hints of red fruit, balsamic notes followed by a light herbal note. On the palate elegant and engaging; surprising in length and volume. In the aftertaste again fruity and mineral notes that make this well-balanced and pleasant drinking.
Campo Alle Comete Description
Campo alle Comete estate is located at the foot of Castagneto Carducci, in province of Livorno. The property extends over 17 Ha, 14.5 of which are vineyards and 2.5 hectares are olive trees. The grape varieties Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Petit Verdot, planted between 1993 and 2007, are all written into the Bolgheri DOC registry.
The winery practices sustainable farming, and in 2016 they started the conversion of the vineyards to organic. The type of soil is mostly loose/sandy with some clay and a part of limestone. The mild temperatures, constant winds, and significant temperature fluctuations between day and night create ideal conditions for a balanced growth of the vines and an excellent grape maturation. The result are healthy grapes, favored by a lower attack of botrytis and diseases. Their aromatic, intense scents and their ripe, fine tannins characterize the wines and create a good pleasantness even at an early age.
James Suckling: 95 Points
Complex aromas of dark berries, fresh herbs, sweet tobacco and crushed flowers. Very integrated and polished with beautiful fruit and richness. Yet, very reserved and tight. A blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc and petit verdot
Wine Enthusiast: 95 Points
Enticing scents of scorched earth, cassis, new leather, vanilla, truffle and Mediterranean brush abound on this classy red. The full-bodied youthfully austere palate is still tightly wound but already shows mature black cherry, raspberry preserve, licorice and grilled herb set against a backbone of firm fine-grained tannins. Give it time to fully develop.
Wine Spectator: 94 Points
Rich and harmonious, featuring a core of black currant, blackberry and plum flavors shaded by rosemary, thyme and sage accents. A solid structure lends support as this plays out on the long finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2021 through 2035.
