Angove Description
The Angove Family's Family Crest red wines are simply the essence of McLaren Vale winemaking. Classic and alternate varieties and blends that suit McLaren Vale’s Mediterranean climate and lifestyle. These are some of our favourite wines to make. This Shiraz has multiple old vine copmonents delivering a wine that is deep red with purple hues. Spice, pepper, red cherry and black chocolate aromas precede a palate of dark chocolate and liquorice, red cherry/raspberry with mouth-filling presence and soft lingering tannins.
Wine Advocate: 92 Points
Delicious. This 2020 Shiraz is spicy, buoyant and bright, reining in the best that McLaren Vale has to offer, in terms of blueberry pie, raspberry, a lash of salted licorice and layers of fine, black-tea tannins. Yummo.
Wine Enthusiast: 91 Points
Plump plum and blueberry fruit is accompanied by subtle peppery spice and licorice notes. The palate is wound in dusty, savory tannins but remains fresh and balanced without burying the succulent red fruit.
James Suckling: 91 Points
A warm-climate wine that plays a hand of cool-climate tension, curtailing its exuberance with a clutch of reductive handling. Notes of dried seaweed, violet and barbecue are attractive. Ample blue fruits, too, with a skein of peppery freshness and whole-bunch spice marking a long finish that is just a bit hard. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
