This Saint-Estephe shows perfumes of black fruits and coffee. On the palate, the tannins are smooth, supple, making it a well-balanced wine. Aged in barrels, it is a nice wine to keep.
Château Leo de Prades Description
In the second half of the 19th century, rich land owners started to develop the vineyard of St Estèphe. That it when we first trace the name De Prades. Today, Château Léo de Prades is one of the 65 châteaux of the appellation. Owned by the Marquis de Saint Estèphe winery, the team has been working with sustainable practices since 2013, receiving the HVE certification from the 2019 vintage.
Daniel Hernandez-Brun for K&D: 95 Points
The 2018 Leo de Prades is still young but shows beautifully with some coaxing, making it ideal for short-term drinking and mid-term cellaring. It is a dense ruby red in color and while the nose is a little timid at first, the aromas blossom with exposure to air. Violet, blueberry, bramble fruit all explode from the glass after about 30 minutes, and further develop hints of graphite and cacao without ever losing that vibrant blue fruit. The palate is full-bodied and develops mouthfilling juicy fruit with hints of licorice, with persistent fine-grained tannins leading to the long, very dry finish. Shows great with hearty red meats, dark chocolate, and rich cheeses. Again, while this is drinking very well now, I suspect this will really hit its stride in another year or two and continue to develop for a decade more.
Wine Enthusiast: 92 Points
This structured wine is rich in tannins and black-currant fruits. A ripe and forward blend of half-and-half Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, it has good potential. The wine will develop well.
