Meaty and tannic with aromas and flavors of licorice and brush, this is a wine for cellaring 5 years before opening, and 20 or more in the finest vintages.
Louis Jadot Description
One of the eight Grands Crus of Gevrey-Chambertin, the Le Chambertin vineyard has surface clay with limestone beneath, which makes the wine round and powerful. The Pinot Noir grapes are fermented in vats for up to one month, and then the wine is matured in oak barrels for 18 to 20 months before bottling.
Burghound: 94 Points
Here too there is a whiff of a similar varnish character but in this case it is so subtle that it doesn't overly detract from the pretty and cool aromas of red and dark cherry, spice and forest floor. The seductively textured yet powerful and muscular stony large-scaled flavors terminate in an exceptionally firm, long and balanced finish. This is a 'buy and forget I own it' wine.
Vinous: 94 Points
The 2017 Chambertin Grad Cru has more amplitude on the nose compared to the Clos-de-Beze, offering layers of red berry fruit, briar, tobacco and light roasted chestnut aromas. This is beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin on the entry. Like the Clos-de-Beze, the fruit is a little backward at the moment, though there is substance here. It feels tightly coiled, but the structure and density on the finish suggest that it should develop in bottle.
Wine Advocate: 93 Points
Aromas of orange rind, red berries, peony and forest floor introduce the 2017 Chambertin Grand Cru (Maison Louis Jadot), a full-bodied, open-knit and giving wine that's a definite success.
