Domaine Jean Grivot Description
Domaine Jean Grivot is among the great names in Burgundian wine. Étienne Grivot and his wife Marielle took over from Étienne’s father Jean Grivot in 1987. The vineyards are densely planted and farmed organically “sans certification” while the aim in the cellar is for balance and clear expression of terroir.
Vinous: 93 Points
The 2021 Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Charmois is a little deeper in colour than the Aux Lavieres. Dark berry fruit commingles with tea leaf on the nose that gains intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine definition, more substance here than the Aux Lavieres with a sappiness that urges another sip. Quite precise. Drink over the next 12-15 years.
Burghound: 91 Points
Relatively firm reduction renders the nose tough to read. Otherwise, there is both good energy and freshness to the detailed and finer if slightly less concentrated middleweight flavors that exude evident minerality on the lingering and less complex finale.
Wine Spectator: 90 Points
A sleek red highlighted by enticing aromas and flavors of morello cherry, sandalwood, cedar and mineral. Silky yet firm, this lingers nicely on the woodsy finish.
