Wine Spectator: 93 Points
A broad style, offering a mix of cherry, strawberry, woodsy and spice aromas and flavors. Shows power and depth, though this seems to be holding back for now. Excellent length. Best from 2023 through 2037.
James Suckling: 92 Points
A very fresh and vibrant nose with more body on the palate, which carries a wealth of acidity and deep-set citrus and peach flavors. Long and succulent. Mouthwatering finish with a gentle, fleshy push. Drink or hold.
Burghound: 92 Points
Here too there are toast and menthol elements in play but with no reduction to the essence of spiced red cherry and earth scents. The succulent, even juicy, medium weight flavors possess obvious rusticity on the muscular palate impression, all wrapped in beautifully complex finish that makes clear that it's going to need patience.
Wine Advocate: 91 Points
The 2017 Beaune 1er Cru Grèves (Domaine Gagey) exhibits aromas of smoky plums, red berries, forest floor and grilled squab. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, with a tensile, tangy profile, its bright core of fruit only partially concealing its youthfully chewy tannins. Structurally, it's typical Grèves and will require a bit of bottle age before revealing its quality.
