The aromatic expression of this grape variety dominates, the very definition of the gewurztraminer from Alsace, well-anchored in the dry and balanced-style of the Trimbach family. Its very elegant bouquet, its crunchiness and its notes of roses, lychee, and citrus fruit lead to a lively and fresh finish.
Trimbach Description
The grapes come from Trimbach’s vines and those of their partner winegrowers. They are located on hillside terroirs on the sub-Vosges hills. The soils date from the Triassic period, on Muschelkalk: shell limestone, dolomite and marl, and from the Jurassic period with limestone and marls, with south/southeast exposure. 2019 had cold temperatures in spring which slowed down the growth of the vines. June followed with dry and very hot weather. Some beneficial rains in August provided relief for the vines. Exceptional hot and dry harvest conditions allowed for perfect maturity, superb balance in between sugar and acidity heralding great wines!
James Suckling: 92 Points
Plenty of spice (mostly allspice and cinnamon) on the nose, but what makes this stand out in the field of regular quality Alsace gewurztraminers is the excellent balance, with lively acidity and a hint of tannin that underlines this at the clean finish. Unusually food-friendly for this grape. Drink now.
