Stephane Ogier Description
The Ogier family has been rooted in Ampuis for seven generations. From the age of six, current owner and winemaker Stéphane knew he wanted to follow in his winemaker father’s footsteps. In 1997, after completing his oenological studies in Beaune, Stéphane formally joined the family estate. The domaine produces wines from 27 acres of vineyards in some of the most famous Côte-Rôtie areas, such as Lancement, Côte-Rozier, and La Viallière. Aside from his Côte-Rôtie wines, Stéphane also produces a Côtes du Rhône (Le Temps est Venu) and several Syrah wines (L’Ame Soeur, La Rosine). In 20 years, total production has grown from 15,000 to 300,000 bottles. Today, the wines have become a reference point for the appellation and are sought after by the greatest chefs and most serious wine lovers around the world.
Wine Advocate: 93 Points
Consumers who like their Syrah with more tartness and red fruit should give the 2018 L'Ame Soeur Syrah de Seyssuel a try. Bright raspberries appear on the nose, accented by hints of peppery spice, licorice and mocha. It's medium to full-bodied, concentrated and richly textured on the palate, with softly dusty tannins that linger on the finish. This seems a bit beefier and richer than when I last tasted it, yet still retains plenty of charm. Drink it over the next decade.
Vinous: 93 Points
Deep, brilliant violet color. Mineral-laced cherry and red berry preserve scents are complimented by spicy cracked pepper and floral notes. Silky, broad and well-concentrated, offering appealingly sweet black raspberry, cherry, and violet pastille flavors that become more lively with air. Shows sharp focus and mineral lift on the persistent finish, which features well-knit tannins and resonating florality.
Wine Spectator: 92 Points
Ripe and lush, with a wave of warmed cassis and steeped plum fruit rolling in, laced with black licorice and backed by an alder echo on the finish. Syrah and Viognier. Drink now through 2028. 750 cases made, 50 cases imported.
