Ridgeview - Single Vineyard Blanc de Blancs 2014 (750ml)
Exuberant on the nose, with honeyed red apple fruit and yeasty autolytic character. Harmonious, with no sharp edges, this has focussed fruit and mellow depth. It's a single-vineyard wine from the original block that was planted by the founders in the late 1990s – among the oldest Chardonnay vines in the country. The long track record shows also in the complexity of this forward and fruit-driven fizz.
Wine Enthusiast: 94 Points
Chalk, oatmeal and the flesh of Golden Delicious apple create a nose of richness, freshness and depth. The palate reinforces all of these notions and carries them on a creamy, persistent, foamy mousse. Its generosity counters the inherent freshness and strikes a wonderful balance. An elegant wine with backbone and depth.
Daniel Hernandez-Brun for K&D: 93 Points
The ’14 Blanc de Blancs, from Sussex, is a lovely example of British bubbly. It is a greenish gold in color, and presents aromas of apple cider, subtle forest floor, crushed oyster shell, and chalk. That fresh apple cider note explodes on the palate, and fine silky bubbles carry complex mineral notes throughout the midpalate and into the bright finish. There is an underlying tension that keeps this vibrant and racy, but a touch of lingering sweetness at the finish keeps this from being overly sharp.
