Our Chardonnay grapes are grown in two vineyards in the Napa Valley—one in Los Carneros and the other in St. Helena. Just 30 miles apart, Los Carneros can be 10 -15 degrees cooler than St. Helena. Due to this temperature difference and essential differences, such as soil type, these two vineyard sites vary greatly in character and expression. When blended, these differences in expression add layer upon layer of flavor to the nose and palate, creating a beautiful and complex Chardonnay. A full-bodied, aromatic white wine that was fermented and aged in a combination of tank and French barrels.
PlumpJack Description
PlumpJack Winery is located in Oakville, in California's Napa Valley. Like many producers in the region, it is famous for its Cabernet Sauvignon wines made in the foothills of the Vaca Mountains.
The estate covers 42 acres (17 ha), encompassing well-drained hillside sites and rich clays on the valley floor. The diversity of terroir here is reflected in the Cabernet Sauvignon wines that PlumpJack has within its collection.
Fruit is also sourced from grower vineyards in Carneros, Rutherford and Calistoga to make a range of varietal wines from Syrah, Merlot and Chardonnay.
PlumpJack uses a range of winemaking techniques in the winery. Fermentation takes place in either stainless steel or oak, with either wild or introduced yeast. A range of oak treatments are also employed, from new and old French oak barriques to 500-liter puncheons.
PlumpJack was founded in 1995 by Gavin Newsom and Gordon Getty, who went on to build a small empire of hotels, restaurants, retailers and wineries in Napa and San Francisco. These include the CADE winery in Napa and Odette in the Stags Leap District.
