Deep gold color. Fine and slow-ascenting bubbles. Very expressive nose with ripe fruits (pear, apple), toasted (almond, grilled bread) and floral notes. On the palate, the entry is vinous and full. A light dosage reveals the depth of this Champagne and its quality : fresh and unctuous, supported by a long length. To be enjoyed with a safron sea bass on a bed of vegetables, a mushroom risotto, chicken in cream sauce…Enjoy!
Nicolas Maillart Description
57% Pinot Noir, 28% Chardonnay, 15% Pinot Meunier. The average age of the vines are 30+ years. Organic and biodynamic approach in the vineyard. No sulfites in the harvest bin in the cellar, slow fermentation in barrels and tanks with a long aging on the lees.
Vinous: 92 Points
The NV Extra Brut Platine Premier Cru is a blend of 68% Pinot Noir, 27% Chardonnay and 7% Pinot Meunier across the vintages of 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 picked in. Ecueuil, Villers Allerand and Bouzy. The nose is slightly reduxced opening into a note of dark honey and russet apple. Very fine mousse on a rounded body is immediately apparent on the Pinot-led palate that sill smolders with reductive smokiness. Yet there is flow and ease to the body, beautiful chalky depth and rye bread autolysis. Resonant, classy, elegant.
Wine Spectator: 91 Points
Spice and citrus zest notes accent the apricot, biscuit and pastry cream notes in this well-knit and lively Champagne. The creamy mousse carries the flavors to the graphite-laced finish.
Wine Enthusiast: 91 Points
With its strongly Pinot Noir character, this dry Champagne is crisp and with enough fruit to give a full character that is fruity and textured at the same time. The wine is perfumed and structured with a light tannin and mineral touch.
Wine Advocate: 90 Points
The NV Premier Cru Platine Extra Brut blends 55% Pinot Noir with 45% Chardonnay from grand cru and premier cru villages of the Montagne de Reims and always includes 30% to 40% of reserve wines aged in barrels. The current release is based on the 2011 vintage and was disgorged in July 2017 with just one gram of dosage. The wine is concentrated and fresh on the nose, with candied citrus aromas (lemon peel and lime pulp). It’s pure but round and complex on the palate, with good intensity and structure and a very good finish. This is a stunningly charming and vinous Extra Brut with very delicate mousse.
