Wine Enthusiast: 95 Points
The autumnal, faintly melancholic nose is a windswept traveler, wrapped in his old leather jacket and blowing cigar smoke into the dying sweet breezes of summer. That sweetness billows one last time on the palate, but the spiced, earthy finish points decidedly toward winter as tannins and acid look on.
Wine Advocate: 93 Points
From vintner Luigi Ananìa, the La Torre 2018 Brunello di Montalcino offers a good sense of volume and richness without ever feeling too heavy. The wine maintains etched lines over a lean-bodied approach and dry tannins. There is dried cherry, grilled earth, blue flower and soft earth. Pretty mineral nuances follow suit. Fruit is sourced from across 4.9 hectares of vines at 420 meters in elevation.
Vinous: 91 Points
A blend of savory herbs, black tea leaves and flowery underbrush defines the slightly muted bouquet of the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino. It’s soft-textured, with a supple wave of ripe red fruits and sweet spice contrasted by hints of sour citrus. A coating of fine tannins is left to resonate, as hints of cranberry and violet inner florals slowly taper off. There’s a good amount of fruit and acidity to balance the structure of the 2018, yet I’d recommend waiting for this to evolve more aromatically.
