Argaman is a grape variety (a crossing, more specifically) that was created in Israel in order to solve the problem of color extraction. Red wines before its creation were coming out quite thin. The deep colored Souzao (of Portugal) was crossed with the chewy Carignan (or Mazuelo, of Northern Spain), and after many lab tests and micro fermentations Argaman was born! For most of it's history it has primarily been used for cheap jug wine, but Jezreel Valley Winery has decided to take it a bit more seriously in focusing a serious level of detail on this single vineyard of older Argaman in the coastal area of .
The grapes are exclusively hand-picked, fermented and then aged in 300L French Oak barrels (30% new) for 22 months. Exoticly aromatic, with a plethora of spices, and a bright, chewy structure, the Argaman Reserve will be a joy at Passover, or any other special time of the year.
