Il Borro - Toscana 2019 (750ml)
A full-bodied, elegant wine that perfectly combines elegance with style. Dark red with purple glints. Intense, with notes of undergrowth that lead way to warm spieces and tertiary aromas of cocoa and sweet tobacco. The well-honed, soft tannins leave a long, dry and velvety finish in the mouth.
Il Borro Description
Il Borro is our flagship wine, the one that best embodies our values and our vision. After an accurate geological study Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah have been planted in the best suited soils to express all their potential, giving birth to a velvety and opulent blend.
James Suckling: 96 Points
Fresh and floral with black cherry and lavender aromas that follow through to a medium body with well integrated tannins, that spread beautifully across the palate. Turns silky and beautiful. Hints of smoke and spice at the end. Crunchy at the end. 50% merlot, 35% cabernet sauvignon and 15% syrah. Drinkable but even better in three to four years.
Wine Advocate: 94 Points
A blend of 50% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Syrah, the Il Borro 2019 Il Borro shows very good definition of each of its components. The Syrah brings freshness and lift to the bouquet. The Merlot is aged in botte grande to bring out an authentic taste of the variety with earth and soil. The Cabernet Sauvignon gives firmness and structure. Bigger oak casks are used to help mitigate the alcohol content that, in the case of this wine, comes in at 15%. That power is indeed lessened.
Wine Enthusiast: 94 Points
Morello cherries and blackberries roll in dirt and wild herbs on the nose, and then stretch their legs on the palate over aromas of vanilla, dark chocolate and espresso. Lively acid and penetrative heat accents the earthy salinity that Il Borro uniquely expresses. Exuberant but sophisticated, worth holding on to until 2029 at least.
Wine Spectator: 93 Points
A concentrated red, with high-toned cherry, kirsch and wild herb flavors that mingle. Shows vanilla and toasty oak accents that complete the profile, while refined tannins and lively acidity lend support. Offers fine length. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Best from 2025 through 2036.
