The 2019 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon embraces the classic Heitz Cellar characteristics with aromatic black and red fruit, sandalwood, cedar, and herbs de Provence, complemented by soft tannins from the signature aging process. Abundant rainfall in the winter, followed by a long, warm summer provided an even growing season with long hang time on the vine.
100% Cabernet Sauvignon
Heitz Cellar Description
Harvested from our vineyards spanning six sub-appellations throughout the Napa Valley, our Cabernet Sauvignon offers a full composition of the breadth of Napa Valley as a whole.
From the fertile soils of western Oakville, to the recognizable terroir known as the “Rutherford Dust,” to the mountain grown fruit atop rugged Howell Mountain, our remarkable vineyards are each unique, but when combined, provide a palette of site specific characteristics that are the essence of Napa Valley.
Wine Spectator: 93 Points
A reserved, streamlined version, with fine-grained cedar and savory threads running through a core of gently mulled cherry, fresh damson plum and red currant coulis notes. There's pretty perfume on the finish.
James Suckling: 93 Points
Pretty aromas of currants, dried flowers and sage. Some yellow painted lead pencil with eraser. Slate. Medium-bodied with creamy and polished tannins that give a lovely texture and length. Drink or hold.
Vinous: 91 Points
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is a pretty rich wine for Heitz. Dark fruit, spice, leather and chocolate are all dialed up in this juicy, succulent Cabernet. The 2019 is a wine of transition at Heitz. It is the first vintage in which a part of the wine was aged in casks (new at the time), which left some uncharacteristic wood notes in the wine that show up in its racy personality. There's certainly plenty to like.
Wine Advocate: 91 Points
Yes, it is still possible to get a balanced, cellar-worthy Napa Cab for under a hundred. Heitz's 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon accents just-ripe cherries with scents of dried herbs and mint, then offers a medium to full-bodied sensation on the palate, marked by gentle tannins. Ripe and fairly forward, with a softly dusty finish, this can be consumed young, or any time over the next decade or more.
