Walled vineyard on the outskirts of Meursault. A monopole produced exclusively by Domaine Jacques Prieur. The vineyard was established by the monks of Cîteaux and has produced red and white wines ever since. The clay-limestone soil sits atop a former river bed.
Domaine Jacques Prieur Description
Intense green-gold color with sparkling golden reflections. Subtle boquet, with finely spicy (white pepper) and toasted notes when aired, evolving into delicate aniseed and "flint" notes. On the palate at first, notes of candied citrus fruit (orange and lemon) and dried apricot. Tasty and consistent texture. Nice palatability on the mouth finish, enhanced by a pleasant crispy acidity.
James Suckling: 94 Points
Expansive nose of sun-kissed stone fruit and butterscotch. Ripe and rich for the 2021 vintage with some orange pith bitterness on the generous palate. All of this wrapped in creaminess that deftly harmonizes the bold structure. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
Burghound: 91 Points
Outstanding
A more complex nose features notes of hazelnut, acacia blossom, lemon rind and a touch of poached pear. The richer and more concentrated medium weight flavors possess a caressing texture allied with solid underlying tension on the clean and agreeably dry finale. Worth a look.
Vinous: 91 Points
The 2020 Meursault Clos de Mazeray Blanc has a nicely detailed bouquet with jasmine and white flower scents complementing the citrus fruit. I find this more complex than the Beaune Blancs. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, hints of tangerine and spice with quite a persistent finish. Enjoy this over the next decade.
