Chateau Suduiraut - Lions de Suduiraut Sauternes 2018 (375ml HALF BOTTLE)
Sweet, honeyed pineapple, white peach, spice, ginger, and orange notes. This can be enjoyed as a chilled aperitif, or with savory dishes and salty cheese quite easily.
Daniel Hernandez-Brun for K&D: 92 Points
The 2018 Lions de Suduiraut, tasted from half-bottle, is a fine second wine from Chateau de Suduiraut. It is a deep golden amber in the glass. The nose is timid at first but some coaxing reveals notes of honey, apricot, cactus flower, kiwi, and stone fruit. This is an immediately mouthfilling wine, pleasantly sweet with a pop of salinity in the mid-palate and balancing acidity. There is a lingering honeyed note at the finish, but that acidity keeps the wine from being cloying.
Wine Enthusiast: 92 Points
This ripe, honey- and apricot-flavored wine has intensity as well as an already approachable character. The second wine of Suduiraut is rich, still hinting at freshness, with a dry edge from botrytis. Drink from 2023.
James Suckling: 92 Points
Aromas of dried figs, apricots, candied citrus, ginger and honeycomb. Sweet and luscious with spicy and toasty character. Bittersweet burnt-lemon notes on the finish. Drink or hold.
Vinous: 91 Points
The 2018 Lions de Suduiraut has a subtle waxy element on the nose, melted candle wax complementing the peach, dried honey, adn ripe clementine aromas. The well-balanced palate offers fine acidity that cuts through the intense honeyed fruit; mango and orange pith appear towward the harmonious finish. This is actually a very fine Second Wine from Pierre Montegut and his team.
