Outstanding quality of fruit. Ripe, fresh grapes with intense dark color. Lovely balance with a supple tannic framework. Beautiful concentration. A bounteous wine.
Chateau Malescot Saint-Exupery Description
Malescot is blended from four grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. They all fully express their own unique characteristics and how they blend together so perfectly.
They are grown in various parts of the vineyard, depending on the different soil structures and types. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot account for 50% and 35% respectively of the vineyard. Cabernet Franc covers 10% of the estate and Petit Verdot just 5%. They both add to the depth of the wine’s aromas and its density.
James Suckling: 97 Points
Plenty of blackcurrant and blueberry character here with cedar and sandalwood undertones that give such interest. Medium- to full-bodied, this has integrated tannins and a long and linear finish. Racy at the end. Classy. Give this three or four years to slightly soften, but it’s already a joy to taste.
Wine Spectator: 96 Points
A flat-out stunner, with waves of blackberry, black currant and plum that tumble through like crumpled velvet, while the vintage's telltale iris/violet gilding weaves throughout. There's a long tug of warm humus and a deftly inlaid alder smoke accent as well. Seriously long, with the fruit providing a steady grip. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot.
Wine Advocate: 95 Points
Offering up aromas of rich blackberries, cassis, sweet spices, pencil shavings and creamy new oak, the 2022 Malescot St. Exupery is medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with a broad attack that segues into a layered core of expressive fruit that's framed by sweet, powdery tannins. A blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, this is one of the appellation's most flamboyant wines, but it retains good balance and boasts a healthy pH of 3.65.
Wine Enthusiast: 94 Points
Cellar Selection
Bottled without fining or racking to preserve all its fruit, the wine is dense and powerful. It is a very fine wine, the black currant aroma and powerful tannins giving an impressive appearance.
Vinous: 93 Points
The 2022 Malescot Saint-Exupery has a delineated bouquet featuring crisp and airy blackberry, raspberry and light iris flower scents. It's quite Burgundian in style. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, a gentle grip and slightly darker fruit than at primeur. Like the nose, it's mineral-driven with a dash of spice towards the finish. There is an endearing purity about this Margaux, and it should drink well for 15 to 20 years. This is very fine.
