When tasted, Lilian Ladouys always reveals a rich and crisp structure with ripe tannins and refined oak which melts into an explosion of fruit. It has the opulence and length of a Saint-Estèphe fine wine. Thanks to the appellation’s limestone-clay subsoils, its power is balanced out by a wonderful sensation of freshness.
Chateau Lilian Ladouys Description
Our top wine is matured for an average of 14 months in our superb barrel store (40-60% new oak depending on the vintage). Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot make up the majority of the blend, with the proportions varying from one year to the next. They are supplemented by Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The estate’s wines go into gravity-fed vats and undergo vinification with a partially gravity-based system, which is more sensitive to the integrity and subtleties of the grapes and the wine.
Wine Enthusiast: 95 Points
Editors’ Choice
Dark chocolate and blackberry fruit aromas and a palate of powerful tannins come together in ripe black fruits. They are balanced with the wood aging and touches of spice and toast. This young wine has a great future.
James Suckling: 92 Points
Fresh and nicely reductive in style, full of crunchy dark cherries and lightly spiced currants and minerals. Good midpalate tension rounded by fine-grained, stony tannins with medium high acidity and some dried herbs and spices extending to a medium-long finish. 52% merlot, 40% cabernet sauvignin and 8% petit verdot.
Vinous: 91 Points
The 2022 Lilian Ladouys is distinguished by its intensely aromatic, savory bouquet. Medium in body, with lovely persistence and fine balance, the 2022 is very nicely done. Pungent aromatics give this a decidedly eccentric character.
Wine Advocate: 90 Points
A Merlot-dominant blend, the 2022 Lilian Ladouys offers up rich aromas of dark berries, violets, charcoal and rose petals, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy palate framed by rich, youthfully firm tannins that assert themselves on the finish.
