Chateau Ducasse Description
At a positioning catty-corner to the Sauternes 1st Growth of Chateau Climens, there’s no question on the potential quality that can come out of Herve Dubourdieu’s property. His meticulous attention to the fruit guarantees it. Though the area is more known for the sweet, sticky wines of Sauternes and Barsac, Herve’s putting the same attention into his dry whites, and unlike his neighbors who are eschewing the Semillon grape and reverting to more of a monovarietal bottling of Sauvignon Blanc, Herve celebrates the waxy, high acid food friendly Semillon as the dominant varietal in his dry white wine bottlings. Not only are they the dominant variety in the Bordeaux and Graves Blanc bottlings, but the vines are old...talking 50 years. While most any fifty year old would shake a fist at such a statement, the reality is that most Bordeaux producers are ripping out white vines after they reach thirty years due to the reduction in productivity. But here again, under Dubourdieu, we have a celebration.
