Chateau Belle Assise Coureau Description
After being owned and managed by the Brun family since the 19th century, the Château was bought in 2013 by a group of friends : Jean Pierre Beltoise (former great car racer and winner of the Monaco Grand Prix F1), Alain Garitey and Lionel Gallais. It is a vineyard of 15.5 hectares around the estate.
James Suckling: 92 Points
Fascinating aromas of smoke, bark, soya and berries. Umami. Medium-to full-bodied with refined tannins that display beautiful polish and form. Not the most structured wine, but nicely done. Try after 2024.
Jeb Dunnuck: 92 Points
The 2018 Chateau Belle Assise Coureau is mostly Merlot coming from the lower plains of Saint-Emilion, which are deeper, more sandy, clay soils. Its deep purple color is followed by a terrific bouquet of black cherries, redcurrants, green tobacco, cedarwood, and chocolate-like aromas and flavors. It's nicely textured and medium to full-bodied, has silky tannins, and is just a beautiful, complex, layered 2018 with loads to love. Drink bottles any time over the coming 10-12 years or more.
Wine Enthusiast: 90 Points
This rich, generous wine is packed with smoky Cabernet Franc and ripe Merlot. Its solid texture and density are mirrored by the punchy black fruits and acidity. The wine needs more time, so drink from 2023.
