Armando Parusso - Barolo Mariondino 2012 (Pre-arrival) (750ml)
This item is available for pre-arrival.
James Suckling: 93 Points
Aromas of walnut, coffee bean and dried strawberry. Burnt orange peel. Full body, very round and rich. Soft tannins and a bright finish. Needs two or three years to come around but fascinating.
Vinous: 93 Points
The 2012 Barolo Mariondino is incredibly powerful and dense, with darker tonalities of fruit than are usually found here. Menthol, pine, spice, French oak and a host of balsamic-inflected notes flesh out as the 2012 shows off its personality. Deep, powerful and juicy, the 2012 Mariondino is another winner from Marco and Tiziana Parusso. Readers will have to give the 2012 at least a few years to soften, as it needs time to settle down. Today, the 2012 is dense and explosive, with new oak that needs to integrate and tannins that need time to soften.
Wine Advocate: 93 Points
From Castiglione Falletto, the 2012 Barolo Mariondino is a thick and penetrating wine that has absorbed the power and the sunshine of this warm growing season. This is a full-throttle Barolo with thickness and ripeness that descend down to its innermost core. However, an extra year of bottle aging has already left its mark on this wine. Specifically, it has successfully loosened up some of the textural firmness and grip of the tannins.
Wine Spectator: 93 Points
Eucalyptus, menthol, fresh-cut hay and cherry flavors signal this muscular Barolo. Finishes on the astringent side, yet shows sweet fruit midpalate and plenty of personality.
Wine Enthusiast: 90 Points
Aromas suggesting mature dark-skinned berry, French oak, leather, menthol and parched soil come together on this. The round, dense palate is already accessible, offering fleshy black cherry, licorice, cured meat and espresso alongside ripe, chewy tannins. Drink through 2021.
