Lovely sweet aromas of toffee and a subtle wisp of smoke greet the nose, followed by tropical fruit plus a dusting of zesty cinnamon and nutmeg. On the palate, the initial entry is just like putting a big pat of buttercream frosting right on your tongue, quickly followed by pineapple and orange, with a strong caramelized element. The overall experience is sweet and lush, finishing on a welcome bright note, like apple cider with lemon or brioche topped with zingy lemon curd.
The 14-year-old is the signature Oban expression. Highland malts can encompass a range of different styles, from Speyside sweetness to Islay-type smokiness, and Oban runs the gamut in a single sip, encompassing luscious fruity flavors, salinity and a light smokiness.
