With a powerful nose of red berries, this wine is nevertheless delicate, with a silky texture and graceful finish. It will develop for 15 to 20 years in the bottle.
Domaine Gagey
Louis Jadot Description
Les Baudes is one of the 24 Premier Cru vineyards of the commune of Chambolle-Musigny. The commune is unique in the Côte de Nuits for its soils: chalky over hard bedrock, which stresses the vines. This Pinot Noir wine is fermented in vats for up to 4 weeks, then aged 18 to 20 months in oak barrels before bottling.
Wine Advocate: 94 Points
The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Baudes (Domaine Gagey) unwinds in the glass with aromas of sweet berries and plums mingled with hints of orange rind and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, it's lively, deep and concentrated, with ample reserves of ripe, powdery tannin and a long, resonant finish.
Burghound: 93 Points
Outstanding
More reserved though still quite pretty aromas of various red berries, spice and a floral top note complement well the bigger-bodied and more powerful medium-bodied flavors that possess a suave and rounded mid-palate that contrasts with the bitter pit fruit-inflected, robust and very firm finale. This is classic Baudes.
Vinous: 92 Points
The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Les Baudes 1er Cru is much more backward compared to the Feusselottes, touches of pencil box and loam infusing the dark berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fleshy, quite sweet and pastille-like on the finish that just misses the backbone of the other Premier Crus. Hence, probably more for early drinking.
