Lovely blood-red colour with crimson edges. Its powerful nose is reminiscent of basalt, tobac- co leaf with cooked fruit notes and juicy prunes. Powerful structured palate, rich and rounded with flavours of fresh strawberry compote, raspberries, cherries tinged with thyme, wild juniper and violet rockrose.
Domaine Giraud Description
Sourced from the pure sandy soils in the Crau area and vineyards around Pignan, our father Pierre was always loyal to his parcels of 100 year old Grenache. This cuvée pays homage to his devotion to Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s flagship variety. Hallmarked by elegance and delicacy, this wine shows finesse perfectly poised by strength of character.
Vinous: 93 Points
Deep ruby. Intensely perfumed aromas of raspberry and cherry liqueur, potpourri and Asian spices, joined by a smoky mineral nuance that builds in the glass. Juicy, penetrating and alluringly sweet, offering intense red and blue fruit and floral pastille flavors and supple, seamless texture. Effortlessly balances richness and vivacity and shows no excess weight. Finishes very long and sweet, with smooth, harmonious tannins and a strong echo of candied flowers.
Wine Spectator: 92 Points
Pretty mulled cherry, red currant and raspberry fruit forms the core, with hints of dried anise and black tea weaving throughout. The focused, sanguine finish presents light alder stitching and a lingering hint of bitter plum. Very graceful.
Wine Advocate: 92 Points
As in 2014, the only special cuvée is the 2013 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée les Grenaches de Pierre. While slightly less impressive than I had hoped, it's still a beautiful wine that offers perfumed and complex aromatics of raspberries, dried flowers, vanilla, wild strawberries and rose petal. Medium ruby colored, medium-bodied, finesse-driven and exceedingly elegant, it has moderate concentration yet high quality tannin and a great finish. It will have 10-12 years of longevity.
